.. / Lama Tree House

The El Hondo fire of 1996 burned 11,000 acres in northern New Mexico, including most of the buildings at the Lama Foundation spiritual center. Its rebirth has been facilitated by summer workshops in permaculture and natural building. One of the first events focused around creating a new living space for Lama caretakers. SunRay’s contribution was the wild organic timber frame for the “Tree House”, constructed from the numerous standing dead trees on the property. The frame has been infilled with strawbales and light-clay-straw, and plastered with local earth. The Tree House has been the subject of a book, and featured in a documentary about Lama “Build Here Now” events.
